# Cline (gateway)

> Set up Cline with the Respan gateway.

Route [Cline](https://cline.bot)'s LLM calls through the Respan gateway for automatic logging, caching, and model switching. Cline has a built-in OpenAI Compatible provider, so only your `RESPAN_API_KEY` is needed.

## Setup

#### Install Cline

Install the **Cline** extension from the VS Code Marketplace, then open it from the sidebar. For the terminal, install the CLI:

```bash
npm install -g cline
```

#### Configure the OpenAI Compatible provider

In the extension:

1. Click the gear icon to open Cline **Settings**.
2. Under **API Provider**, choose **OpenAI Compatible**.
3. Fill in the fields:
   * **Base URL**: `https://api.respan.ai/api`
   * **API Key**: `YOUR_RESPAN_API_KEY`
   * **Model**: `gpt-4o`
4. Save.

In the CLI, the same settings are one command:

```bash
cline auth openai -b "https://api.respan.ai/api" -k "YOUR_RESPAN_API_KEY" -m gpt-4o
```

No separate provider key needed. The Respan gateway handles provider authentication.

#### Start coding

Open the Cline chat panel and send a message, or run a task from the terminal:

```bash
cline "your prompt"
```

All LLM calls now route through Respan.

## Switch models

Change the **Model** field (or pass `-m <model>` to the CLI) to use any of the 1000+ models available through the gateway.

```text
gpt-4o
claude-sonnet-4-5-20250929
gemini/gemini-3.5-flash
```

See the [full model list](https://platform.respan.ai/platform/models).
