GripTape is a modular Python framework for building AI agents and workflows with chain-of-thought reasoning capabilities. Founded in May 2023 by former Amazon Web Services employees in Seattle, GripTape was acquired by The Foundry Visionmongers on February 18, 2026. The company raised $12.5 million and grew to 22 employees before the acquisition, focusing on helping developers and creatives harness the potential of LLMs in secure, professional production environments.
GripTape offers multiple products to serve different user needs: the GripTape Framework is a Python toolkit enabling developers to build secure GenAI applications and agents; GripTape Nodes provides a visual interface allowing artists to build AI-driven workflows without writing code; and GripTape Cloud offers managed services for deployment. The framework is designed with a robust, highly extensible architecture for scale, workflow longevity, and integration with existing production infrastructure including management systems and render farm hand-offs.
Following the Foundry acquisition, GripTape's capabilities are being integrated into Foundry's creative software portfolio, enabling visual effects, animation, and design professionals to orchestrate multiple AI models and agents within their existing workflows. The core framework remains available under the Apache 2.0 open-source license, ensuring continued community development while gaining the backing of an established creative technology company.
